MRI Results - A gift or Frustrating

So my MRI results on my back came back. Good news, nothing wrong there. Bad news, still having lots of pain in my knee and still can't run on it. This is very frustrating. I have a half marathon in April and my big one in May. I need to be training, yet because of the pain I can't. I'm not sure what I'm going to be able to do. I want to do well at my events, but this may be the first time I get swept.

Anyway, a see a neuromassage therapist on Thursday and then an appointment - get this not til April 1st - with a sports medicine doctor. Hopefully Michele will be able to work wonders on Thursday and I'll be able to get some good workouts done. I need to get my mileage going up on a steady basis.

Cross your fingers, say a prayer!

Princesses Storm the Castle!!

That's right. Princesses, thousands of them, will be storming Cinderella's castle this weekend. It's all in fun though. the Walt Disney World Princess Half Marathon is this weekend. Weather forecast says it's going to be beautiful on race day. Cool, breezy, with a high in the 60's. Perfect weather for running and cheering on the masses.

I plan on being strategically placed on Main Street so I can cheer on all my mentees. I've been really looking forward to meeting everyone. Should be a fabulous weekend.

God bless all of you this weekend. May you have an injury free run/walk. May you be blessed with not being picked up by the "happy" bus. I pray that you watch over all of the princesses and princes and allow them to have the magical weekend they have been training for and eagerly anticipating. Hoping they all have fun and memories to last a lifetime. Amen.

Good Luck everyone participating. Safe journeys and I'll see you there!!

Another MRI

Okay, so doctor says I'm not responding to the prolotherapy as well as he thought I would, so he's wondering if the problem isn't something else. 6:15 AM heading out to Neuroimaging for an MRI to rule out herniated disc in my L3-L5 region of my back. It's frustrating not knowing what the pain is coming from. Seems to be more to it than just a little weakening of my quadriceps. Hmmm, stay posted, update to come.

Okay - Hopefully Tomorrow is the Last Time!

Alright, I have another round of shots to my knee tomorrow. I can't really tell if it's working. I mean my range of motion is actually more limited and I'm not able to run right now as I'm not supposed to put any unnecessary impact on my knee. So, this means I've been walking, but my muscles seem like they are so tight. I've got to say, I'm hoping the shots are worth it come Vancouver time as the treatment is extremely painful. I mean getting stuck 50 or more times with a needle is not exactly my idea of pain free treatment. If you cannot tolerate needles that well, this is not the treatment for you.

I also am heading to Orlando this weekend to meet and cheer on my Princess team mentees. Should be a great weekend! Fabulous weather is in the forecast and Disney events are always a lot of fun.

So, if anyone has had the prolotherapy treatments and would like to share their experience with me, I would appreciate it. Have a great week!

Anyone looking for an experienced mechanical engineer?

Well, George received his layoff notice from USA yesterday. Looks like his last day at the Space Center will be April 13th. Not sure of what we're going to do. He's hoping to find something in our area, but we may have to move. That wouldn't be too bad. Kind of an adventure to live somewhere else, but I'd miss my friends. It would also be hard to leave surroundings that are so familiar. You know, I know where all the shortcuts are, have my favorite grocery stores and running store. I know the schools and teachers. We're happy here as it's been our home for so long, but change can be good and if we do move, Charleston doesn't sound like to bad a place to end up. Huntsville is another possibility at this point, but I don't know anything about Huntsville, so no opinion on that yet.

We'll see. God has a plan and we just have to trust him to lead us in the right direction. So, if anyone knows of companies hiring an experienced mechanical engineer - let me know - please!

Thanks.

Nice Run Today

The morning started out with a nice cool 61. By the time I finished my 5 miles it was up to 74. Once that sun comes up it warms up quick here in Florida. I'm still doing a slow and easy pace. I did try to add some running back into my mileage, but by the end of the 5 miles I was definitely knowing I was pushing it. Sharp pain under knee cap area - similar to a shin split pain came on when I was on my last 1/4 mile. Today was the first time I've tried my 1/1 run/walk ratio since having the MRI. I've been pretty good about doing my lunges and squats and have added some hand weights when doing them to help strengthen my quads. Seems to be doing okay, but I'm thinking I need to add more weight and a few more rounds as well as keeping with a walking routine for a while longer.

I also just received great news that I will be receiving a nice donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through my TNT site. This will bring me to my minimum fundraising goal. I would really love to see me exceed that goal though my $1,000. This is my one big race for Team in Training this year and I want to make a strong effort for the cause.

This one's for you Jim! I hope you're smiling down on me on race day and give me a nudge when the going gets tough.
