I'm pretty close, but not there yet!

Good morning!

I wanted to thank everyone that has made a donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through my Team In Training site. I have reached 74% of my fundraising goal. Yea!!! So, for those of you that have not yet donated, there's plenty of time. Please donate to this wonderful charity. It saves so many lives and helps the families and patients who are dealing with the realities of cancer.

Have a great day and thank you again. You are all super heroes in the fight against blood cancer!

Sad News

Cancer has taken another loved one. My best friend's father, James Gonzagowski passed away at 2AM this morning. The nurses said he died peacefully, but it's never easy to let go no matter how well prepared you think you are. Please keep Leisha, Karen and their family in your prayers as they deal with the loss of their father/husband/grandfather.

This is why I run and continue to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Prayers

Well, my best friend's dad is about to lose his battle with cancer. It is really taking a toll on him. He's now in the hospice wing and the drugs have him pretty out of it. Please pray for Jim, Leisha and the rest of their family. I know God has a plan, it's just hard to see it. Seems the worst things happen to the best people. I always think it must be because he knows how loved they are and that they can survive, but it doesn't make the pain and loss of a loved one any easier.

Advantages to getting older

So there are advantages to getting older! I turned 50 in July so I moved up into the next age group for races. Yesterday I did a 5K with my daughter and placed 3rd in my age group. First time ever for placing! Woo Hoo. Oh, but did I mention I was the last person to cross the finish line? Since I'm nursing my knee, I walked the whole thing. There must have only been 3 people in the category. So, my plan is to hang in there long enough and I'll be taking home 1st place!!

It was a beautiful morning and the proceeds went to help Merritt Island High School's Track & Field team. Great day.

Family - not always a pleasure

Family - not always a pleasure to deal with. My mom passed away back in June and we're dealing with the sale of her real estate. Now, since it's been 6 months and nothing appears to be happening, I decided just to drop a quick note to the attorney and asked for an update. That's it, nothing probing, no criticism on how anything has been handled. Just a simple, hadn't heard anything in a while, could you give me an update. Well, my sisters jumped all over me. I was out of line to contact attorney, only the executor should have contact with the attorney, just do what we say blindly and don't question it. Now, sure the executor handles things and all, but a simple question as to how are things going, is out of line. I don't think so, but then what do I know.

Venting - once again - sorry. It's just I don't get family sometimes. Out of line - Really? What do you guys think?

Day of Rest

Day of Rest. Yeah - looks like I'll have a lot of those. I'm going to have to find an alternative to the running for a while. Something funky going on with my knee and I need it to heal before Vancouver. I had an MRI on Friday so come Monday hopefully I'll know what's going on with it. For now though, I need to figure out what kind of strength training I can do that will help strengthen my legs but with low to no impact. Any suggestions anyone?

I know lunges, squats are good for your legs, but right now those are very painful for me to do. If I ride my bike, how far, how fast or how long do I need to do it to make a difference and help?

So that news kinds of stinks. But, I gotta say the weather in Florida this weekend has been beautiful. Blue skies and cool days and nights. I think our high yesterday was 61 - can you say - Loooovee It?!!

Gotta go. Time for breakfast.

Any ideas for getting my 20 year old employed?

Okay, so my son who is 20 now is having a hard time finding a job in the UCF area - or at least that's what he's telling me. I'm running out of money sources to help pay for him to live over there and he really needs a job. Any ideas on what he may be doing wrong or what he needs to do to get noticed when he fills out his applications?

PLEASE HELP!!

This is Why!

Alright, my BFF is having a hard time right now. Her dad's cancer has come back with a vengence. They are such a close family and she is having to make some hard decisions right now. James is just one of the many people I run for. Team In Training has done amazing things for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by helping raise funds for research to find a cure for blood cancer. In addition they raise funds to help patients and families with costs associated with cancer treatment and education.

Please help me in my war against cancer. Donate to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at http://pages.teamintraining.org/vtnt/vancouvr12/jhearn

Thank you.

Here's my honored hero - James Gonzagowski

Okay - Today is going to be a great day!

I'm making today a great day! I started with my Fly Lady list,
Up early - check,
Dressed with laces tied - check
Clean sink - check,
Load of laundry in the wash - check
Check computer/Calendar - check
Coffee and breakfast - check

Next I'm heading out for thoughtful movement - I'm doing 5 miles - easy of course. Then we'll get back and tackle a couple of things on my to-do list.

I'll miss having the kids around, but it is nice that they're back in school so I can get things done uninterrupted during the day! Better get a going.

Some of Brevard's Best!! GO TEAM!!

You guys rock!

GO TEAM! GO TEAM! GO TEAM!

Guess what I was chanting this morning from about 6 AM to 9 AM every time I saw purple! You got it - GO TEAM! GO TEAM! GO TEAM! My voice is now a little hoarse. Where was I and why? Where is simple. I was at Walt Disney World for the Marathon. The why - well that's pretty simple too!! I have a lot of TNT friends that were there and wanted to show my support for them by cheering them on at Main Street. The weather was perfect.

I would like to say though. Even if you have someone you are cheering for, stay a little while longer and cheer on all the other runners after your runner goes by. I always feel like the slower participants must feel a little sad instead of joyous when they run down Main Street as by the time the last runner passes by there are very few spectators cheering for them. At mile 10 in a marathon on Main Street in Walt Disney World - every runner deserves a round of cheers to help them through the 2nd half. I have run many half marathons, two marathons, 3 triathlons and many races of varying lengths and I have got to say that it's the crowds' cheers as you run by that give you a little boost of adrenalin and that extra kick to your step when you need it. For participants that travel from far away and don't have anyone cheering for them personally, I know from experience, I love to hear someone cheer for me as I go by - either with a GO TEAM! when I'm in purple or Go Girl!

This morning I was cheering randomly for people, calling them by name, saying something like "Great Job Ken" or "Go Shannon". And the woman next to me says "WOW, you sure know a lot of people racing today". I had to smile and then I told her my secret - I don't know that many people, their names are written at the bottom of their race bibs. So, when my eyesight allows and I can see someone's name, I'll give them a personal shout out! It's fun watching their expressions, because a lot of them will look at you, smile with the question "how does she know me?" I think a lot of times the newbies don't realize their names are on their bibs or they forget.

Anyway, that's all I have to say today! Have a great week!

Fly Lady - I need you!

I am making a "resolution" to get my house clutter free this year - or as clutter free as you can with kids in the house. It's not that I want it to look like a showroom, but I would like it to be a home that makes me and my family feel relaxed, not looking around going, I need to do something about that pile of stuff over there, the paperwok on the counter, etc. I want to have friends over to entertain and have them leaving thinking, WOW I love coming to her house!

So, today starts the first day of that journey! Wish me luck! Time to shine my sink!

HELP!! I'm Running to Save Lives!!!!

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday. I wanted to send out a reminder that I am raising money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by running the Vancouver Half Marathon. I'm always asked why I continue to run for TNT and it's simple.

I'm trying to do whatever I can to find a cure for blood cancers. I'm not a scientist or doctor, so this is my way of helping save lives.

My best friend's father is battling cancer as we speak. Then, I received an email from one of my TNT team mates today and it was yet another reminder of the reason I continue to be a part of Team In Training and am so passionate about raising money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Laura's update on her husband's medical prognosis is not good. They have a 6 year old son and although their faith and love is strong, things are not going well. He has a procedure scheduled for the end of this month, early February, and it will be their last real chance.
I could go on and on with story after story, but I think you all know how serious cancer is and how it touches the lives of almost everyone we know. Please help me in my race to end cancer by donating to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society today. Please visit my website at http://pages.teamintraining.org/vtnt/vancouvr12/jhearn and help save a life today. What better way to start the year off right??!!!
Peace,
Jo Lea
