Guess what I was chanting this morning from about 6 AM to 9 AM every time I saw purple! You got it - GO TEAM! GO TEAM! GO TEAM! My voice is now a little hoarse. Where was I and why? Where is simple. I was at Walt Disney World for the Marathon. The why - well that's pretty simple too!! I have a lot of TNT friends that were there and wanted to show my support for them by cheering them on at Main Street. The weather was perfect.
I would like to say though. Even if you have someone you are cheering for, stay a little while longer and cheer on all the other runners after your runner goes by. I always feel like the slower participants must feel a little sad instead of joyous when they run down Main Street as by the time the last runner passes by there are very few spectators cheering for them. At mile 10 in a marathon on Main Street in Walt Disney World - every runner deserves a round of cheers to help them through the 2nd half. I have run many half marathons, two marathons, 3 triathlons and many races of varying lengths and I have got to say that it's the crowds' cheers as you run by that give you a little boost of adrenalin and that extra kick to your step when you need it. For participants that travel from far away and don't have anyone cheering for them personally, I know from experience, I love to hear someone cheer for me as I go by - either with a GO TEAM! when I'm in purple or Go Girl!
This morning I was cheering randomly for people, calling them by name, saying something like "Great Job Ken" or "Go Shannon". And the woman next to me says "WOW, you sure know a lot of people racing today". I had to smile and then I told her my secret - I don't know that many people, their names are written at the bottom of their race bibs. So, when my eyesight allows and I can see someone's name, I'll give them a personal shout out! It's fun watching their expressions, because a lot of them will look at you, smile with the question "how does she know me?" I think a lot of times the newbies don't realize their names are on their bibs or they forget.
Anyway, that's all I have to say today! Have a great week!
